Biography

ELECTIVE OFFICE: Appointed to the Senate in January 2013
STANDING COMMITTEES (2013-2014): Vice Chair of the Natural Resources & Parks; Vice Chair of the Trade and Economic Development; Member of the Transportation committee.
OCCUPATION: Sen. Smith works nationally and internationally as a private business development consultant and he also owns and manages the Colville Farmers Market. He and his family live on a small, working farm raising timber, cattle, chickens and produce.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Colville Chamber of Commerce, Stevens County Farm Bureau, Colville Cub Scout Program, Colville Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church
AWARDS:
- Citizens Alliance for Property Rights ‘Caught in the Act’ award for defending the right to protect private property through wolf legislation (2013)
- Washington Association of School Administrator’s Outstanding Community Leadership Award for work with regional Economic Development and the resulting benefits to education (2012)
- Republican Eagle Volunteer award for outstanding Republican Volunteer Service (2012)
PERSONAL: Sen. Smith moved to Stevens County 24 years ago and fell in love with the region. He and his wife, Dezarae, have been married for 16 years and have two children, a daughter who is 14 years old and a son who is nine years old. Together, they are active in their community and church.
